Church Volunteers Participate In Christmas In April, Beautify And Make Repairs For A Local Homeowner
In the early morning hours of April 29, most PFW congregants were still snug in their beds. However, a handful of church volunteers gathered to bestow blessings upon a local homeowner – in the manner of painting, wiping, hammering, drilling and cleaning parts of the house, and all sorts of small things in between. While it wasn’t Christmas, it was Christmas in April, a nationwide volunteer activity that’s been taking place in Prince George’s County for the past 29 years.
This year, PFW congregants can add their efforts to the overall county statistics. In April of 2017, Christmas in April/P.G. volunteers repaired 82 homes, 13 percent of which were for veterans. Seventy-four was the average age of the homeowners, 93 being the oldest. PFW volunteers can count themselves among 3,200 volunteers in the county.
