Joy in Expression Through Music

By Karleen Powell, P-FWUMC Director of Music and Arts

One of the greatest joys in our lives is the ability to enjoy music. We enjoy it in almost every form. It feeds our every emotion. What a glorious gift God gave us! You can experience the many ways to give the gift of music to others and also enrich your own life. We, at Providence Fort Washington UMC, have several outlets for you to discover the best way to experience and share God through music.

The Sanctuary Choir

While we are not meeting to practice during the pandemic, the Sanctuary Choir normally rehearses on Thursday evenings 7:30 pm. The choir provides music for all services of worship and presents several major programs throughout the year. All are welcome. No voice raised in praise is less than beautiful to God’s ear.

Instrumental Music

Those with instrumental backgrounds are encouraged to participate in the various musical opportunities in worship. Let the Director know you are interested and the instrument you play. Every ability has a place to be used in God’s worship.

Youth and Children’s Ministry

One of our great joys is sharing the joy of God through music and drama with our youth and children. They rehearse on Sunday as part of the Sunday School. They provide several musical offerings during the year and also present dramas and plays with music.

Small Ensembles

P-FWUMC Small Ensembles are a great way to share your love of harmony, rhythm and new vocal styles in worship.

Drama in Music

Plays, vignettes, playletts, dialogues with music and much more are also part of the Worship experience. We have many fine speakers who participate in our drama opportunities throughout the year. Rehearsals are scheduled for each work that is being performed. Those interested are invited to communicate with the Director of Music and Arts to be able to find the perfect part for you. Liturgical Dance is another musical form of worship that PFWUMC aspires to debut. This is an outlet for all who are interested in finding creative ways to express their love of God through meaningful movement. Not everyone desires to sing, but some enjoy enrichment through this form of expression. Both men and women can enjoy this activity. If you are interested in performing Liturgical Dance, please contact Sally Long. You may be our first dancer!

The Men’s Ensemble

The Men’s Ensemble provides an opportunity for all men who enjoy singing to enrich the worship experience through this medium. No audition needed. While we are not meeting to practice during the pandemic, normal rehearsal times are Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm.
